Ticking Time Bomb

My biggest time management challenge is managing my time ! I always make the excuse of never having time for anything. Even though I know there is time for everything. It's funny how I'm always complaining about never having time for my school work but I always tell my boyfriend "you can make time ! There is always time !" I am literally a walking contradiction. Now that I am in college I have come to realize that managing my time is so important. I am usually OCD about writing stuff down and making sure that I do a certain assignment on time. But since I'm in college, its a whole different ball game. I always have to FORCE myself to write them down because I forget about stuff easily.
A main time management tool I use to help me out a lot is my handy dandy sticky notes. I love my sticky notes, without my sticky notes I really don't know what I would do with myself. Like if I have to clean my room or vacuum my floor, I always put a sticky note on my door because in order for me to get in my room I have to use and look at my door.  Another tool I am trying to use is writing my schedule out as soon as I wake up. When I write out my schedule for the whole day with specific times, I will be able to finish everything I have to do that day. I always have to trick myself into doing my work at a specific time because I will not do my work until the last minute.
If you are having trouble managing your time, the best advice I can give to you is sit down and write down everything you have to do. It is better to write down the things you have to do than trying to do everything at once and getting overwhelmed. Once you get every thing you have to do written down, you should divide and conquer the small things on your list. If someone told you to eat a big giant elephant, you wouldn't eat the whole thing in one bite. You would divide that big beast and eat it a little bit at a time. If you would take the time =) and figure out what you have to do for a day, week, month or even a year, you should be successful in managing your time.

  1. Sherami, this is such great advice. It's such a good idea to keep an agenda for the whole day, and set aside time for certain tasks. The dividing and conquering for me is much easier said than done, I often get overwhelmed by the big picture. I love the analogy of eating an elephant :)

  2. Oh, I like sticky notes, too! One tool that I've really started using is the Notes app on my phone--I keep a running to-do list, both long- and short-term.

As to the "how much time do you have" question, I'm always reminded of a friend who once observed that "having time" issues really aren't about time--they're about priorities.

  3. Hey Sherami! I find myself having some of the same issues as you. When something needs to be done, I need to write that down somewhere, otherwise it will never be started. I live by stick notes as well, I brought packs of them, in various colors. I am going to try your idea of writing out my schedule in the morning, but also in the evening, therefore I can include homework as well. One last note, I was amused by your eating an elephant reference. :)

  4. Hi Sherami!
I am one of those people who tries to do every single task at once and then I end up getting overwhelmed! I don't know why I always do that, I always think it will help and it usually doesn't. I often find myself telling people I have hardly any time to do anything but then I realize I just watched 2 hours of netflix :P I like your idea of sticky notes, maybe I will try that!

  5. Sherami! You seriously are like the funniest person ever. But the sticky note idea is genius because sometimes I will write stuff down but its not helpful unless I actually look at it haha. I loved your elephant comparison, so cute!

  6. You took me back to Blue's Clues for a second with your "handy dandy" sticky notes. College is a new ball game. You're right. However, you seem to have a firm grip on the bat. Hit it out of the park! Thanks for the advice, by the way. I probably need all I can get, but for the record, eggplant is my favorite vegetable so I'm unsure about that whole one-bite scenario.
